On seeing the turnoff for Bondi, our excitement began to bubble. Be it the iconic Icebergs pool, the dazzling beach shore or the hunky lifeguards, this charming Sydney suburb has something for everyone. Where sleepy beach town meets the buzzing city, Bondi is all about the best of both worlds (cue Hannah Montana).
With a plethora of cafes extending far beyond the horizon, interspersed with edgy boutiques and beach for daysss, it can be hard to know where to start. In our opinion, any ultimate weekend begins with an early start, and Bondi Beach is where it’s at!
A local and tourist fave, often attracting crowds so large the sand disappears! A morning visit, however, ensures your only neighbours are the yoga fanatics and friendly gulls. Chill out on the sand, crash through the waves, reenact the notebook, take your pick as the setting is gorgeous and it’s all yours!
If all that sun tanning (or, you know, sun burn avoidance) has worked up your appetite, make like an Aussie and scout out some brunch. Try and avoid the tourist trap meals of $20-$40!! Venturing off the high street, Campbell Parade, Birichina Café became our godsend. Fab coffee, sea views and smashed avo to-die-for, affords you the authentic Bondi Hipster experience, with half the price tag. Or, pack a picnic and do things your own way!
Grab your bit of culture along the famous Bondi Street Wall Art, which showcases local Aussie artists’ works. Snaking along the coastline, the beautiful murals perfectly compliment the scenery and your Insta page! The installations change frequently, so you’ll never get bored. Our favourite was the World Map by Em Carrey, I bet you could never guess why!!! In October and November check out Sculptures by the Sea which transforms the coastal walk between Bondi and Tamara Beach into a 2km long sculpture park by artists all over the globe. Seriously worth checking out!
Finally catch the sunset by the iconic Icebergs. The incredible swimming club, turned restaurant, turned heaven boasts phenomenal views and activities! Head down to the pool, attend a yoga session, hit the gym or grab a cocktail on the balcony (our preferred activity), you could easily spend the entire afternoon there! Further, the club marks the start of the stunning Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk. Remember to pack some decent walking shoes and swimmers, as there is an abundance of hidden beaches and coves along the way, it’s a dream, right!? And trust us, in the summer heat, you’ll be glad to cool of in the ocean!
With so much to do in Bondi it can get a little overwhelming for first timers. But with this guide, you won’t just be relying on beginner luck! We hope that you’ll enjoy Bondi as much as we do, and we would loooove to see your pictures and thoughts if you visit!
